Sustainability Since Day 1 header. A woman with a donation for Goodwill.
Goodwill Donation Lifecycle - You donate your used items to us - we sell them in our retail stores - unsold items to to our outlet stores - unsold items are sorted for recycling.

Sustainability is Our Business

For more than 120 years, Goodwill® has been giving items a second life — reducing waste, supporting job training, and strengthening communities through the power of reuse. As one of the largest collectors of donated goods, we play a vital role in the circular economy by keeping usable items in circulation and out of the waste stream. Every donation enters a system designed to maximize its value, with multiple pathways that extend its life and create opportunity at every step. In many cases, Goodwill is an item’s last chance to be reused, which is a responsibility we take seriously. By making it easy for people to donate and shop secondhand, we help preserve resources, reduce unnecessary waste, and ensure that what still has value continues to serve our communities.

Sustainability Powers Opportunity

At Easterseals-Goodwill Northern Rocky Mountain, sustainability isn’t separate from our mission — it’s how we create impact every day. Through the power of donated goods and reuse, we help fund life-changing programs across Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. Last year alone, more than 3,800 individuals received job training, disability services, and support to live more independently, while our Goodwill stores welcomed over 2.7 million shoppers and processed more than 1 million donations. Together, these efforts gave more than 12 million items a second life and kept 8.5 million pounds of usable goods in circulation, generating critical funding for services that strengthen our communities. From employment programs and behavioral health to in-home care and children’s early intervention, every item donated and every purchase made helps create opportunity, extend resources, and improve lives.

Simple Ways to Live More Sustainably

Small, everyday choices can make a big impact. By being more mindful about what we buy, use, and pass along, we can all help extend the life of valuable resources and support a more sustainable, circular community. The most impactful actions start with using less and making the most of what we already have. When you donate and shop secondhand, you are powering Easterseals-Goodwill’s mission.
